A HOLIDAY AT HOME

I don’t know about you but a break from everything usual these past couple of weeks have felt really good. To me, a holiday away is when I leave everything behind. It makes me feel free and light and helps me re-energise and be more present. Mid-December I wondered if it was possible to get that holiday feeling without leaving home? I mean, I have been in the same geographical spot for the past five months – I guess it is the same for you!

Number one priority was to connect more with the present moment as I know everything is there: The ease, wellness, happiness, the life I want to live. My goal is to be aware enough to be there all the time.

I always find that the present moment is more easily accessible when I go away on holiday. Maybe you know what I mean? When we are away from what usually surrounds us we get inspired by all things new. New people, perhaps another language, a new landscape, different food. There are so many new experiences that trigger our awareness so it is impossible to be on automatic pilot. We go deeper into life without effort. Our usual endless daily thoughts are off for some time. We focus on something else and feel more free. So I decided to treat the last couple of weeks of 2020 as being away on holiday, even though I stayed at home like everyone else.

To help myself get there I decided to retrieve from my daily routines and change up my habits. Less social media for a start. Focusing on myself and my family. Making time to sit down and read a book. Walking my dog at other times than I usually do. Eating a different breakfast every day. Practising yoga to French music. Starting doing the cold shower thing à la the iceman Wim Hof. In short, changing several small things with intention so I could be here in a different way and connect more easily with the present moment.

With the situation we find ourselves in now I believe awareness is key to see life in a good way. Awareness is needed to change things up and make life different and new to ourselves. What we externally see at the moment may not be so helpful for feeling good and energised. Energy, motivation and feeling of newness have to come from within.

I hope you have had a good break and feel motivated for the new year ahead of you. I do like to start something new, and a new year is definitely something new. Every day is a new day. Whether it is the 1st of January or another day in the year. We can always start new. I wish you the best for the year to come. May you be safe. May you be as healthy and happy as it is possible for you to be! May you live with ease 💜
